Benin updates national haemovigilance reporting form

The Agence béninoise du Médicament et des autres produits de Santé (ABMed) and the Agence Nationale de Transfusion Sanguine (ANTS) have updated the national reporting form for adverse events linked to labile blood products.

The agencies held a workshop in Cotonou from 28 to 30 September 2026 to review and enrich the haemovigilance notification form, drawing on international good practices. The event forms part of efforts to strengthen the Système National de Vigilance des Produits de Santé (SNVPS).

Participants examined the functioning of the existing national pharmacovigilance and haemovigilance systems, and developed recommendations on validating and disseminating the revised form, training healthcare professionals, and integrating notifications effectively into the national vigilance circuit.

The workshop received technical and financial support from Enabel, the Belgian development agency.

The authority did not specify when the updated form will take effect, what changes were made to the previous version, whether healthcare facilities will be required to use it, or how it aligns with international standards such as those of the World Health Organization or the Council of Europe.
