Editorial policy

This policy governs everything published under the Drug Eye Africa masthead. It exists so that readers can judge our reporting on the evidence behind it rather than on our say-so.

Sourcing

Our reporting is built on primary documents wherever they exist: published regulatory notices, inspection reports, gazette entries, laboratory results, court filings, company announcements and peer-reviewed literature. Where we rely on a document, we identify it so a reader can find it.

Verification

Before an alert or recall is published, it is matched against the issuing authority’s own published notice. We do not republish safety alerts on the strength of a secondary report alone. Where an alert circulates that we cannot match to an agency notice, we either withhold it or state plainly that it is unverified and explain why.

Attribution and anonymity

We attribute information to named sources by default. Anonymity is granted only where a source faces a credible professional or personal risk, and never merely for convenience or to allow an unchallenged attack on a named party. Where a source is anonymous, we explain to readers why anonymity was granted and what the source is in a position to know.

Right of reply

Where our reporting makes a specific criticism of an identifiable organisation or individual, we put that criticism to them before publication and allow a reasonable period for response. If no response is received, we say so.

Corrections and updates

Errors are corrected promptly and visibly. A correction notice is appended to the affected article, timestamped, describing what was wrong and what has changed. Developing stories carry an updated stamp. We do not delete published articles to resolve a complaint; where a story cannot stand, it is retracted with an explanation left in place.

Artificial intelligence

AI tools may assist with research, transcription and copy editing. They are not used to generate reporting, and every published fact is verified by a human against a primary source.
