Egypt’s Drug Authority (EDA) has issued two commercial fraud circulars over packs of unknown source, after the manufacturers named on the packaging reported that the products do not belong to them.
Pharmacies, hospital procurement and distributors should check stock against the batch numbers below and remove affected packs. The Epoetin circular warrants the closer check: it concerns an injectable biological supplied in vials, dispensed to patients requiring repeated dosing, and packs of unknown source carry no assurance of content, cold-chain handling or sterility. Dialysis units and oncology pharmacies should verify the supply route for erythropoietin stock, not the batch number alone.
| Product | Batch on pack | Production–expiry | Manufacturer named on pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Epoetin 4000 IU vial | 0426377 | 15/04/2026 – 14/02/2028 | Sedico for Pharmaceutical Industries |
| MEBO Ointment 15g | 08226 | 12/2024 – 11/2028 | Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (Julphar) |
In both cases the EDA said the company named on the packaging informed it that packs showing the described differences do not belong to it and were not produced or manufactured with its knowledge, making them of unknown source. The authority ordered seizure and quarantine of packs not conforming to specifications, directed anyone in doubt to its 15301 hotline or website, and published links to images distinguishing the affected packs. Each circular states that it applies only to the batches named and not to circulation of the product generally.
