The Autoridade Nacional Reguladora de Medicamentos (ANARME) has removed quantities of medicines from illegal sale in Nacala-Porto municipality, Nampula province, in a coordinated operation with the Procuradoria-Geral da República (PGR-GCCCOT), Serviço Nacional de Investigação Criminal (SERNIC) and Polícia da República de Moçambique (PRM).
The operation on 22 September 2026 targeted medicines being sold on the black market in poor storage conditions. Seven individuals suspected of involvement in the scheme were detained and referred to competent authorities for subsequent legal proceedings.
The seized products will undergo verification and treatment as provided for in applicable legislation. ANARME described the action as part of its efforts to combat illegal commercialisation and smuggling of medicines and to strengthen control over the distribution chain.
