Burkina Faso’s Faso Food and Drug Administration has prohibited the sale, dispensing, prescription, holding for sale and use of DengueMed, a product presented as a dengue treatment and currently circulating in the country.
Pharmacies, pharmaceutical depots, wholesale distributors and public and private health facilities must withdraw the product from shelves immediately, place it in quarantine, and declare the quantities held and the identity of their supplier to Faso FDA or their regional health directorate. Inspection teams will collect the stock. Inspections will be conducted at pharmacies, depots and health facilities, and anyone found in possession of the product for sale or use after publication of the notice faces administrative and criminal sanctions under the regulations in force. The ban applies across the national territory regardless of presentation, batch or supplier.
Faso FDA said DengueMed holds no marketing authorisation in Burkina Faso and does not appear in the 2026 edition of the national nomenclature of authorised pharmaceutical specialities and generic medicines. Its quality, efficacy and safety have not been evaluated by any competent authority. The authority stated that no specific medicine against dengue exists.
Prescribers are asked to stop recommending the product and to report any adverse effect observed in a patient who has taken it.
