South Sudan orders immediate recall of Eliquis 5mg over quality concern

South Sudan’s Drug and Food Control Authority (DFCA) has ordered the immediate recall of Eliquis (apixaban) 5mg, citing a quality concern, in a notice issued by its Department of Inspection and Surveillance on 6 November 2026.

Retail pharmacies and importers should withdraw the product and review import documentation for branded medicines in stock. The DFCA said it has observed an increase in brand medicines in retailer pharmacies for which proper importation documents were not obtained, and has issued a warning to pharmacy retailers and pharmaceutical companies to stop bringing unauthorised medicines into the country, stating that companies or pharmacies failing to comply will be closed.

The authority said the recalled product bears the marketing attribution “Bristol Myers Squibb Pfizer / Australia” and carries no manufacturing date and no batch number.
