Burkina Faso's Faso FDA and pharmacy order create permanent consultation committee

Faso FDA and the Ordre National des Pharmaciens du Burkina Faso (ONPBF) have agreed to create a permanent consultation committee to strengthen collaboration between the regulator and the pharmacy profession.

The agreement was reached on 20 October 2026 when a Faso FDA delegation led by Director-General Dr Arsène Ouédraogo met ONPBF President Dr Nédié Nao at the pharmacy order’s headquarters in Ouagadougou. The two institutions share an ambition to tighten oversight and ensure lasting improvements in the pharmaceutical sector.

The committee will begin work immediately on three priority areas. First, it will examine the import process and price administration for health products. Second, it will analyse the geographic distribution of access to health products to identify and close disparities across the country. Third, it will control advertising for medicines and health products to protect the public from misinformation and inappropriate use.

The initiative follows Faso FDA’s creation in October 2026 through the merger of the former Agence nationale de régulation pharmaceutique (ANRP) and the Agence nationale de sécurité sanitaire des aliments et des eaux de consommation (ANSSEAT). The new authority aims to accelerate dossier processing and strengthen field presence.
