Kenya's PPB strengthens marketing authorisation renewal and supply chain safeguards

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has introduced the renewal of marketing authorisations, strengthened inspections and enhanced pharmacy practice standards.

The measures were announced by PPB Chairperson Dr John M. Munyu at the opening of the sixth PharmaReg and MedDevReg AfriSummit 2026 in Nairobi on 28 September 2026. The five-day summit, held under the theme “Building the Bridge of Health,” was officially opened by Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale, with PPB serving as official patron.

The Board is also advancing product authentication, traceability and regulatory reliance to safeguard the pharmaceutical supply chain and enable faster action against substandard and falsified medical products.

Dr Munyu said Kenya’s journey through the World Health Organization Global Benchmarking Tool has helped make regulatory decisions more consistent, predictable and risk-based. He called for stronger collaboration among African regulators, manufacturers and other stakeholders to advance regulatory maturity, local manufacturing, digital systems and supply-chain security.
