The Autoridade Nacional Reguladora de Medicamentos (ANARME) has suspended the activities of Clínica Médica de Maputo with immediate effect following a joint inspection that identified multiple pharmaceutical irregularities.
ANARME’s Southern Regional Delegation, coordinating with the Inspecção-Geral da Saúde (IGS) through the Maputo City Internal Control Unit, carried out the enforcement action. The clinic must now submit documentation proving the origin, acquisition, storage and use of the medicines found, and provide clarifications to the authorities.
Inspectors found pharmaceutical products with Mandarin labelling whose regulatory status and acquisition documentation await confirmation by competent entities. They also identified expired medicines, including products that expired in 2025 and others expiring between January and June 2026.
The team additionally found products reserved for exclusive use by the Ministry of Health (MISAU) being held at the clinic, and the reuse of containers previously used for pharmaceutical packaging that were being employed to repackage solutions.
A formal notice of offence (Auto de Notícia) was issued during the operation. The identified infractions are subject to administrative and legal measures under applicable legislation.
ANARME stated that the inspection will continue with analysis of the documentation and clarifications submitted by the clinic, which may result in further administrative and legal measures. The intervention forms part of health authority surveillance actions to strengthen pharmaceutical control, ensure compliance with legislation and protect public health.
