Somaliland’s Quality Control Agency has suspended the sale and distribution of all medicines produced by YENISOM Healthcare, saying the Mogadishu-manufactured products had not undergone the quality-control testing the agency requires on entry.
Importers, wholesalers, pharmacies and other businesses holding YENISOM stock in Somaliland must stop supply now, and those that continue face legal action. The agency named no individual products or batch numbers, so the order covers the manufacturer’s entire range: procurement and dispensing teams should search registers by manufacturer name, not by product. Companies moving medicines from Mogadishu into Somaliland should confirm their own entry-testing documentation before the next consignment clears.
Asma Abdi Jama, director of the agency’s medicines quality-assurance department, said the decision was taken under its legal mandate to oversee the quality and safety of medicines. “The sale and distribution of medicines produced by YENISOM, which are manufactured in Mogadishu, Somalia, have been completely suspended,” she said in remarks reported on Saturday.
“These medicines were suspended because they had not undergone the quality-control and testing procedures required by the Quality Control Agency when they enter the country,” she said.
The agency said it would coordinate with local authorities to remove the products from the market as quickly as possible and urged the public not to buy or use them. “We are informing the public not to buy or use these medicines,” Asma said. On enforcement, she added: “Anyone who fails to comply with this order will face action in accordance with the law.”
The agency did not say that any YENISOM medicine had been found unsafe, harmful or out of specification. The stated ground is procedural — that the required entry testing was not carried out. It did not say whether samples were analysed, whether any adverse reactions had been reported, or through which channel traders and health workers should report stock they hold.
