Sudan's NMPB holds staff workshop on professional fraud and internal controls

The National Medicines and Poisons Board (NMPB) has held a training workshop for staff on professional fraud and internal controls.

The workshop, titled “Professional Fraud Programme: Detection and Prevention,” was held on 25 October 2026. It aimed to raise awareness of fraud and administrative violation risks, and to build staff capacity to detect and limit such incidents in order to protect institutional resources and strengthen integrity and transparency.

The programme covered the concept of professional fraud, its forms, risks, drivers, opportunities and justifications, as well as types of administrative violations including internal and external fraud and indicators that enable early detection. Preventive procedures to limit violations were reviewed, alongside the importance of embedding a culture of honour, honesty and professional and ethical conduct.

The role of management and internal control in detecting and addressing fraud cases was also addressed. The workshop introduced internal control systems according to the COSO framework, their types, components and activation mechanisms, as well as ways to strengthen institutional oversight and improve administrative and financial performance.
