Sudan's NMPB seizes expired and unregistered medicines in North Kordofan inspections

The National Medicines and Poisons Board (NMPB) has seized expired and unregistered medicines during joint inspection operations in North Kordofan state.

The North Kordofan branch of the NMPB carried out the inspections in coordination with the General Administration of Pharmacy and Drug Supply. The campaign targeted a number of pharmacies in the state, including El Obeid.

The authority confiscated the seized products under the 2009 Medicines and Poisons Act and its implementing regulations. The NMPB did not state the quantity of medicines seized, the specific products involved, the number of pharmacies inspected, whether any licences were suspended or revoked, or whether any penalties beyond confiscation were imposed.

Dr Mubarak Idris Adam, director of the NMPB’s North Kordofan branch, confirmed that supervisory campaigns will continue in coordination with relevant authorities to detect violations and protect public health. He called on pharmaceutical institutions to comply with approved conditions and controls for medicine trading.

The inspections form part of the NMPB’s regulatory role in combating smuggled and falsified medicines and strengthening compliance with legal requirements, according to the authority.
